Blackfriars is a perfect location for wedding receptions, private celebrations, birthday parties and anniversaries. You will have your own dedicated events coordinator to your ‘Big Day’ and to help you arrange everything from cocktails and canapés, delicious food from our award-winning chefs, wine and Champagne. We can also assist in the organisation of flowers and table decorations, table plans, name cards, cake stands, marquees, live bands, licenses and taxis.

Menus
Blackfriars Restaurant was recently voted ‘Best Restaurant in the North East’ by readers of The Observer; it is has an AA Rosette, is listed in the Michelin Guide and is featured in the Which? Good Food Guide. We serve a classic but gutsy modern-British menu using local and seasonal ingredients – often straight from the farm.
Because we like to keep our menus as seasonal as possible, we prefer to wait to finalise our menu until nearer the time – perhaps just a few weeks before your special occasion. Please see examples of our Menus.

However, if you’d prefer we agree a menu well in advance then we’ll simply suggest delicious dishes using produce that is available all year round.

Either way, please tell us if there is any specific dishes that you wish to include.
 
Restaurant Package
The main Blackfriars Restaurant was originally built for the Dominican Friars as their refectory and so lays claim to be the oldest restaurant in the UK and holds up to 70 diners or 100 standing. The Restaurant Package includes your own red carpet, a Champagne or cocktail reception in the medieval courtyard (weather permitting), a delicious 4 course meal, a Champagne toast, coffee, chocolates and exclusive use of Blackfriars Restaurant all night from just £55 per person.

Weekday Package
Again, in our main restaurant, this includes a glass of bubbly on arrival, a 3 course meal, coffee and chocolates from just £32.50 per person.

Private dining
Blackfriars has a number of different private dining options including the main Restaurant for 70 diners (or sectioned-off for 30/40 diners) or 100 standing guests; the Meeting Rooms with room for 30 seated or 100 standing guests. Menus can be designed according to your specific requirements and budgets.

The Small Print (T&C’s)
Please note, although the main dining room is free to hire, there is a minimum spend of £1,500 Monday to Thursday nights, £2,500 on Friday night and £4,000 on a Saturday night. Children eat at half price. A 10% service charge is added to all bills. Corkage for your own wine is £15 per bottle or £20 for Champagne. A 10% deposit is required to secure your booking. Final numbers and full payment is required 4 weeks in advance. All payments are non-refundable. All prices inclusive of VAT (unless stated otherwise).
